Andy's Broken Elbow

On Monday,
Heather, Emily and I went on our Annual Gardner Village trip.
(We didn't actually end up at Gardner Village this year, we went to Arby's for dinner and spent all our time there talking and eating. Then everything was closed at Gardner Village so we went shopping for Halloween stuff instead. None of us were that sad mostly because this night is supposed to just be for us to get together and catch up - which is exactly what we did!)

While we were at Arby's eating, I got a call from Andy telling me that he had fallen on my longboard while he was walking Belle and he thinks he broke his arm.
He was at the Instacare when he had called me.

Apparently, he was in front of his parents house with the longboard and had just kind of tripped over his feet type of a thing and fallen right onto his elbow.
He went inside and iced in for a little while but the pain kept getting worse.
He decided to go over to my parents house to see Vince and see what he thought.
Vince thinks that his shoulder was dislocated but was popped back in when Vince was checking everything out.
His elbow was very very tender when Vince was checking it out so he told Andy to go get it checked out.
From there, he went to the InstaCare where they took an x-ray.
It was definitely broken on the radial head on his left arm.
The bright side, is that he wasn't on a hill or going fast to get a lot of road rash or anything.

The next day, Vince showed the x-ray to the doctors that he works with up at Tosh.
They told us to have Andy come in Friday to have it
checked to discuss if surgery is the next step or not.
Sure enough, we will be going in Tuesday for Andy to have a couple screws put in his elbow.
Because his bones are strong and healthy, when he landed they sort of shattered instead of being old they would have just sort of bent a little.
So he will be having surgery on Tuesday to fix his arm.
Then right after that we will be doing lots of Physical Therapy to get that elbow back to where it needs to be!
Dr. Widmer will be doing the surgery up at Tosh.
We are so lucky to have Vince working up there right now so that we could have an "in".

They had wrapped it up at the InstaCare with a splint and a sling.
When we talked with Dr. Widmer, he told Andy he could take it off and wash his arm if he'd like since we are doing surgery on Tuesday anyway.
So most of the time Andy just wears the sling without his arm wrapped up.

Wish us luck on Tuesday!
